If I could only share one thing with you about me it would be the joy and excitement that I have experienced since I quit my 40 hour a week job and went into business for myself. I had been a software consultant for most of my business career. Even though it was my own business, I still was required to work long hours, away from home, doing what others wanted and only paid for each hour worked. I always knew there was a better way to make a decent living. But until recently, I was afraid to take that step. I'm glad I finally did!
 
Aside from that I'm now able to schedule and control my own life. I still work hard, but I determine when and where and when it's time for a break. I now have the time to do the other things that I enjoy. I get to take my family skiing, boating and camping at our convenience. I also teach martial arts to children and adults and get to coach my 3 kids soccer teams.
 
The best thing about having my own business is the time I get to spend with my family. When I was working for others, I was usually 40 miles away from home. I had to travel for 1 to 2 hours each morning and evening. I had limited time to spend with my children...a good morning kiss and off to work. Sometimes dinner with the family, sometimes not. I now take my kids to school, help out in their classrooms, get to see all their plays and attend the special events. I pick them up from school, help them with home work, do our after school activities together; soccer and martial arts. I know that these valued moments come only once in a life time, I'm glad I'm not missing them any more!
 
For me, it all started when I began to question what I was doing with my life. I enjoyed WHAT I was doing, but not the price I was paying. I was missing too many special moments that I should have been spending with my children...their first words, first walks, first day in school, etc. I was being paid for 8 hours of work but I was away from home 12 to 13 hours each day. I knew I had to solve this problem. So I began to search for a sound and solid way to maintain the lifestyle I was accustom to, while living a life that I would not regret in the future.
